Friday is a day of Workshops and Field Trips! Field trips are included in your registration, the workshop is an add-on.
8:00 – 2:00: Seaside or Ecola Beach Clean Up. Do some good in the community and get in some beach combing! Gloves, sharp containers, and trash bags provided. Note weather is unpredictable, so be prepared for cold, rain, and all the gnarliness the Oregon Coast has to offer.
9:00 – 12:00: Ecola State Park Salamander Scavenger Hunt. Join our intrepid amphibian specialists on a jaunt into Ecola looking for squirmy, wiggly, adorable yet slimy salamanders! Species known to be there include western red-backed salamander, Dunn’s salamander, coast giant salamander, Columbia torrent salamander, ensatina, and the ubiquitous rough-skinned newt. Sallies we hope to find include Clouded salamander. Bring gloves and clothes for moist, raining forest. Some off-trail exploration is highly likely!
8:00 – 2:00: Communicating Environmental Topics Within and Without. Ever have to speak to a group of contentious stakeholders or get put “on the spot” for a public meeting? Ever have your supervisor just not “get it”? This workshop is the first step in getting your message out! With guest speaker Michael Fraidenburg, learn how to assess your audience and figure out what words will help them see your point. Fee: $15.
