Are you a team leader that enjoys ecological monitoring and working with volunteers? Do you have an interest in working in vernal pool, grassland, oak, chaparral, forest, and wetland plant communities in southern Oregon? The SW Oregon team is looking for a 9- month Steward to assist with biological and ecological data collection, invasive plant mapping and control, important restoration activities and lead volunteer crews who are instrumental to our success.

The SW Oregon Steward role is a 35 hours per week, 9-month position that ends in December 2018. Our preferred hiring range is: $21.48-$22.82
The ideal candidate will have a background and track record that includes:
- BA/BS/AS/Technical or vocational degree in science-related field and 1 year related experience in custodial and ecological land management or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with natural systems.
- Experience in ecological land management principles.
- Experience with GPS and interpreting mapped information
- Experience performing physical work
- Experience working in a team environment
- Experience operating and or repairing various types of equipment and machinery.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.Preferred knowledge, skills and experience:
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross cultural experience appreciated.
- 1 – 2 years related experience in custodial and ecological land management
- Some experience managing volunteers or entry level staff.
- Ability to recognize plant and animal species to complete preserve management activities.
- Knowledge/understanding of current trends and practices in conservation, land management and natural resourcepreservation/conservation or similar field.
- Experience with GIS software including editing data and creation of maps.
- Ability to work collaboratively with conservation partners and volunteers from a range of backgrounds and organizations.Interesting in finding out more? Zumwalt Botanist & Crew Lead

Are you a skilled botanist that wants to contribute to conservation and active management on a grasslands team in NE Oregon? Would implementing botanically-focused monitoring, research and inventory projects bring you joy? The Zumwalt team is looking for a new team member to join as the Zumwalt Botanist & Crew Lead. We’re looking for someone to play a major role in leading and mentoring a small crew of resident volunteers to conduct field work from May through October. Field work requires use of standardized protocols for sampling vegetation plots, identification of plants to species level, and utilization of databases for collecting and managing data. Other activities include maintenance of project databases (including GIS), management of field data collection devices, data analysis and report writing.

The Zumwalt Botanist & Crew Lead role is 35 hours per week and a 9-month active, 3 months leave without pay during the winter months term position that ends December 2019. Our preferred hiring range is: $21.48-$22.82
The ideal candidate will have a background and track record that includes:
- Bachelor’s Degree in science related field and 1 year experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with GIS software and data to create maps.
- Experience identifying grasses and flowering plants of the Western US.
- Experience training and leading field crews and ensuring the safety of a group.Preferred knowledge, skills and experience:
- Multi-language skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
- 2 – 3 years of experience in ecological monitoring and field data collection.
- Knowledge of grassland ecology, including effects of livestock grazing and invasive plant management.
- Experience organizing and ensuring the quality of large datasets.
- Experience performing statistical analysis of biological or environmental data.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment when encountering uncertainty.
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff, volunteers and external parties, sometimes under pressure, to complete projectgoals in a timely manner.
