ORTWS Goals: ORTWS’s mission is to: “Promote wise conservation and management of wildlife resources in Oregon by serving and representing wildlife professionals.” As such, a primary goal of our chapter is to aide public discussion of natural resource management in our state and to promote the application of sound science in resource management decisions. However, TWS is less known outside of our own professional wildlife circles, as a premier, objective, science resource for policy professionals, stakeholders and the general public. With the advent of Google Scholar and other easily accessible on-line resources, peer-reviewed research is easily misinterpreted, and misused without expert input. Furthermore, the natural resource landscape has become increasingly dynamic, as more diverse voices and interests join the conversation. It is vitally important that we re-assert the expertise of our professional Membership, Board, Officers and Committee members, into this complex arena. As a chapter leader, my goal is help position ORTWS as a central resource in this changing natural resource landscape by:

  1. Connecting, educating, and coordinating with diverse stakeholders and policy professionals about the mission and capacity of ORTWS and its members
  2. Supporting workshops, training and other resources for our members that increase our ability to effectively communicate science to diverse audiences
  3. Strongly advocating for a broad-based, sustainable funding mechanism to allow our members to effectively address conservation issues now and into the future.
