Present Position/Employment: Western EcoSystems Technology (WEST), Inc. – Project Manager/Wildlife Biologist, Corvallis, OR. Affiliated/Adjunct faculty – Fish, Wildlife and Conservation Ecology Dept., New Mexico State University.
Former Positions/Employment: Associate Professor/Department Chair – Eastern New Mexico University – Ruidoso. Owner/Operator of Bosque Wildlife and Habitat (small biological consulting firm). AD fire personnel (READ, BIOL, THSP) for the Lincoln National Forest, NM. Multiple previous positions.
TWS Activities: Past-President of New Mexico Chapter of The Wildlife Society (2015), current Board Member of NMTWS (term expiring February 2018), Board Member of NMTWS since 2013. Founded Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) Student Chapter of The Wildlife Society in 2012. Member of New Mexico Conservation Affairs Committee since 2014 (term expiring February 2018). Arrangements Committee Chair for Annual Conference of The Wildlife Society in Albuquerque (2017). Permanent member of Parent Society “North American Committee” for planning of Annual Conference(s) – working directly with Parent Society on Cleveland (2018) and Reno (2019). Long-time member of TWS College and University Education Working Group, Forestry and Wildlife Working Group, and Renewable Energy Working Group. Helped plan several Joint Annual Meeting(s) of New Mexico and Arizona Chapters of TWS (and NM/AZ AFS). Revised/updated by-laws of NMTWS in 2015 in conjunction with NMTWS Board. Multiple presentations at local, regional, and annual TWS conferences.
ORTWS Goals: I would like to continue to be involved with TWS at the local level. I feel that I can not only provide a conduit to the Parent Society for ORTWS, but I can bring my experience with helping plan regional TWS conferences and the Annual Conference of TWS to ORTWS. I’ve also worked extensively with student chapters and on student activities, and can bring this experience to bear, as needed, to ORTWS. I think The Wildlife Society is a great organization, and I would like to continue to give back!
Interests (Professional and/or Personal): In addition to my work with WEST, I continue to be interested in the interface of forest restoration and endangered species conservation (which I worked on somewhat extensively in the Southwest). I’m also an EMT with a variety of ancillary medical qualifications, and I’m interested in remote and emergent medical support. I have two young daughters who are the center of my world, and when I have time (which isn’t often anymore) I like to fish, hunt, run rivers and hike. I also love traveling with my family.
