Job Opportunity: Habitat Restoration Technician, Corvallis, OR

Greenbelt Land Trust is seeking a motivated individual to maintain conservation lands and assist in wildlife surveys. The employee will primarily work outdoors on habitat restoration projects controlling noxious weeds, operating and repairing equipment, and conducting day-to-day habitat management activities in the Corvallis area. Approximately one month will be spent conducting surveys for western pond turtles and Oregon Vesper Sparrow.

  • START / END DATES: 6-months, April 16, 2018 to October 12, 2018
  • Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
  • Location: Corvallis, Oregon
  • Compensation: $15-16/hour, depending on experience and certifications.
    Paid vacation, sick leave and holidays.

DUTIES
• Tractor operation (30%)
• Herbicide applications (25%)
• Wildlife surveys (15%)
• Manual labor such as clearing brush, repairing fences, and cutting trees (15%)
• Equipment cleaning, maintenance, and repair (10%)
• Record keeping / office work (5%)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma.
• Ability to follow instructions from supervisor and work cooperatively on a team.
• Experience using and maintaining power and hand tools.
• Ability to operate and maintain tractor, ATV, and other equipment safely.
• Good record keeping, clean handwriting, and organizational ability.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to safely drive a truck and trailer with heavy equipment
• Ability, motivation and endurance for eight hours of productive manual labor outdoors.
• Ability to safely lift 60 lbs.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Chemical Applicator’s License (Oregon) and experience with herbicide applications.
• Knowledge of Oregon plants, animals, and habitats.
• Farm, forestry, landscape, or horticulture skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
• Often works alone and outdoors in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.
• May be required to start work at 6AM during the fire season.
