“A Broad Vision for Conservation: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Wildlife Science and Policy”
Three leading scholars in ecology, environmental history, and environmental ethics will lead a panel discussion along with an Oregon representative on key challenges facing natural resource management now and into the future.
Ken Helm, Oregon House of Representatives. Ken Represents District 34 in the Oregon House Helm earned his B.A. in history and political science from Willamette University and his J.D. from Willamette University College of Law. Ken has authored numerous Bills supporting conservation in Oregon and is a leader in efforts to secure funding solutions for ODFW.
Bruce Marcot, is a Research Wildlife Biologist with the USFS with a notably multi-disciplinary and international background in both empirical science and policy. His focus includes wildlife population viability, assessment of biodiversity, and ecologically sustainable land-use planning.
Michael Nelson, Environmental Ethics & Philosophy professor from OSU, where he holds the Ruth H. Spaniol Chair of Renewable Resources. Michael’s work focuses on the ethical considerations surrounding natural resource management. He is also the Lead Principle Investigator on the H.J. Marsha Weisiger is an Environmental Historian and the Rocky and Julie Dixon Chair of Western History at the U of Oregon (link). She is also the Co-Director of the Center for Environmental Futures, and interdisciplinary group of faculty and students encouraging connections between environmental studies disciplines and community engagement.
