The State of Oregon is working to increase diversity on state-level boards and commissions. This is a wonderful thing! As part of this process, ODFW has requested help from ORTWS in identifying a diverse group of candidates that could potentially serve on the Fish and Wildlife Commission. Again, while this process is open to everyone, we strongly encourage Oregon wildlifers who identify as BIPOC or LGBTQ+ to consider attending one of these upcoming recruitment events, which will be identical.
There are currently three recruitment/informational events scheduled:
- Wednesday, April 28, 2021
- 11:45 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.
- 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
- Saturday, May 1, 2021
- 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
The focus of this initiative is to create a diverse pool of candidates for Oregon’s boards and commissions in terms of geography, gender, race, disability/ability, ethnicity, LGBTQ+, and/or veteran status.
The program will include an overview of what it means to serve as a board/commission member and current board/commission members will be available to discuss their experiences. The event will also include break-out sessions for more in depth conversations with board/commission members and executive directors.
For registration please visit State of Oregon: Administration – Boards & Commissions website and click on the “Save the Date” icon in the upper right corner of the page. A full program agenda will be sent in mid-April. If you have any questions about this program you may contact Serena Stoudamire Wesley (Serena.Stoudamire@oregon.gov) or Sherry Kudna (Sherry.Kudna@oregon.gov).
Please don’t hesitate to share this information with any of your friends or colleagues who might be interested. This is a great initiative that is very important in terms of recognizing diverse perspectives in the management of Oregon’s Fish and Wildlife resources.
