ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

Abstracts for oral presentations and posters must be submitted electronically using this on-line form by November 15, 2021. Please limit abstracts to 250 words (unless you are applying to be considered for the Best Student Presentation Award, see details below). We strongly encourage all students to present!  Because of the limited space, some talks will either be 8 minutes (especially work in progress) or posters.  Feedback on your abstracts will occur by January 11, 2022.

Note for software associated with Oral Presentations: Visual support for oral presentations will only be allowed in PowerPoint format for PCs (Apple-based format will not be acceptable).  PowerPoint presentations should be MS-Office 2013 or later version to ensure greatest compatibility with anticipated projection equipment and computer support.  As always, give credit where credit is due by naming the image owner. If an image is copyrighted, then get permission from the image owner before using it.

RESEARCH AND MANAGEMENT UPDATES (BRIEF PRESENTATIONS)

Want to present at the Conference but you don’t yet have all your results or perhaps you have a new management consideration or project for your peers?  Consider a shortened, 8 minute update that provides brief background, brief methods, and preliminary results.  The goal for these talks will be to allow your peers to know what you’ve been working on and allow for discussion.  Make sure the presentation type is ”IGNITE”.

POSTER PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

Each poster should be contained within a 3 foot-high x 4 foot-wide area.   Please contact poster committee chair Leland Brown at lelandbrown@ortws.org if you have additional questions about display boards and/or the size of your poster.

Be sure to submit an abstract for your poster by November 15, 2021 using this online form.

BEST STUDENT PRESENTATION AWARDS

The Les Eberhardt award is granted to a student who is judged to have presented the ‘best student presentation’ at the ORTWS annual meeting.

To be considered, the presenter must submit an extended abstract (500 word limit) for a full-length oral presentation at the ORTWS annual meeting.  The content presented must have been developed while the presenter was a student.  Applicants must either be:

  • Actively pursuing a degree in wildlife biology or related fields (e.g. wildlife management, ecology, natural resources, fisheries biology, entomology, forestry, soil science, etc.) OR
  • Have recently (within 1 year) received a degree in wildlife biology or a related field, and are presenting results of information obtained as a student

To be considered for this year’s Les Eberhardt award, please indicate your interest when submitting your abstract.  Only students with completed research will be considered (please no proposed research talks).  ORTWS will pay for the winner to attend the next National TWS meeting and present their research (pending abstract acceptance by National TWS). The recipient’s name will also be added to the ORTWS Les Eberhardt Award Plaque (kept in Nash Hall, Oregon State University).

Note: all students presenting posters will be considered for the Best Student Poster award, but a smaller pool of students giving oral presentations will be considered for the Les Eberhardt award.

SPECIAL SESSIONS

We encourage suggestions of full special sessions devoted to a single topic or theme.  Special sessions at the 2022 Annual Conference should be able to encompass a 90 minute time slot, which can be formatted in a variety of different presentation styles; ORTWS encourages unique and different presentation styles, including, but not limited to:

Moderated Panel Discussion – Three to four individual speaker presentations around a similar topic, developed with a moderator introducing and concluding the various speakers. Question and answer at the conclusion is encouraged to be built into the session time.

Collaborative Discussion – Attendees are actively encouraged to participate in the discussion, led by a moderator and possible speakers. May be in the form of roundtables topics.

Point-Counterpoint Panel – Moderated discussion focused on various sides of a topic, which may or may not include presentations.

Conversation Starter – Moderator is prepared to facilitate an open discussion along a particular topic. They begin with a 5 minute intro of the topic or sides of the topic, then opens to the audience for interactive discussion.
