Member Spotlight: Jim Greer

ORTWS Board Member  (2022-2024)

Current position: Retired (formerly Chief of the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program – USFWS)

Biographical Sketch: My youth was filled with wildlife adventures along the Columbia River, Mt. Hood forests, and Oregon’s high desert.  Following a B.S. degree in Wildlife Science from Oregon State University I enjoyed a very fulfilling 26-year career with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and 6 years with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Having the good fortune to work across Oregon on habitat crews, in district wildlife biologist and administrative positions, and eventually becoming Director for ODFW, I can’t say enough how important the conservation of our wildlife species and their habitats are to me personally. As Chief of the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program for USFWS, in Washington DC, I worked with a lot of great people to fund a myriad of programs to get good things done for wildlife. That work topped off my career and upon retirement I focused more on family and recreational pursuits like wildlife photography, hunting and simply exploring the great outdoors. Moving back home to Oregon in 2017 now has my interests focused on where I might be able to help on important conservation issues, and the Oregon Chapter of The Wildlife Society couldn’t be a better fit.

As chair of the Conservation Committee, I hope to bring more issues to the Board and members for their involvement. I will be recommending positions that are in line with what’s best for wildlife and the priorities of our many Chapter members.
