Morrow Soil & Water Conservation District is hiring a Wildlife Habitat Technician located in Heppner, Oregon.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The focus of this position is to restore, maintain, and improve primarily upland bird and mule deer habitats in and around Morrow County using available funding from partners and Farm Bill programs. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Works with partners to identify, develop, and implement projects on private lands in high priority areas that foster the mutual conservation objectives of Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife, Natural Resource Conservation Service, Morrow Soil & Water Conservation District, and other resource professionals
- Responsible for all aspects of habitat project implementation to include: purchasing supplies, seedbed preparation (chemical and mechanical), seeding and follow-up
- Uses farm equipment such as tractors and implements, drills, sprayers, to implement habitat projects
- Researches and applies for grants to fund habitat projects
- Manages projects to include: determining restoration or management goals, building effective partnerships, identifying management techniques, working with contractors, tracking project tasks/budgets/timelines, conducting monitoring, and preparing reports
- Works with natural resource agencies to provide one-stop services for private landowners and organizations working on habitat restoration projects to include: providing technical information on species and habitats, restoration and management activities and techniques, and identifying most appropriate cost-share programs available
- Promotes program to the public, schools, landowners, and others through presentations, landowner tours, agricultural-related newsletters, events, media, and other opportunities
- Work with private landowners to select habitat improvement sites, develop or modify existing conservation plan, including CRP and CREP
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position requires a flexible work schedule which typically involves working longer hours including evening and weekends during the spring and fall planting seasons
- This position requires the employee to be comfortable with both office and field work
- Frequent travel in and around Morrow County towing heavy loads
- Operating and maintaining various farm equipment and implements in remote areas
- Working in an office setting completing paper and computer work
- Travel by vehicle and/or foot to complete field work through isolated, rugged terrain without supervision
- Occasional exposure to severe weather conditions
REQUIREMENTS
- Fingerprinting and background check
- Associates or higher degree in a natural resources field or five years experience with animal husbandry or farming
- Oregon Public Pesticide Applicator License or obtaining one within 90 days of hire
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

COMPENSATION
- $3,400.00/month plus 7% annual retirement contribution, cost shared employee only health insurance, annual and sick leave
- This position is a fulltime position dependent on ODFW state budget
