2023 Grant Report by Forests Today & Forever to The Wildlife Society, Oregon Chapter

Forests Today & Forever used the $400 granted by the Oregon Chapter of the Wildlife Society to purchase owl pellets for our Forest Field Day program, a field-based program that serves 2,000 middle school students during a typical year. The owl pellets dissection activity is part of the ‘Wildlife Station” at Forest Field Days where students learn about the food web of Oregon’s west-side forests.

This hands-on activity engages the students in active learning while stimulating curiosity about forest animals and their interactions. It complements a hike on a forest trail to look for wildlife and a lesson using pelts, tracks, and scat.

The award by the Oregon Chapter of the Wildlife Society in 2024 to fund owl pellets benefited over 100 middle school students. Thank you for supporting our efforts in forestry education. Please find pictures below of middle school students dissecting owl pellets.
